County Elections Soon

Upcoming County Elections!!

It seems there is no posting or discussion lately. Nothing to talk about or is it that nobody has anything to say?
With county elections looming in a few weeks it might be good to get some dialog started on the candidates,
who they are, what they are promising and if they are worthy of our votes. At least those where there is a choice.

County Auditor:

Dawn Sattler (D) (incumbent)
Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett (I)

What choice is there here? Dawn has been in office for awhile, long enough to screw things up majorly. Roberts county
was audited several times and the Auditor's office was found lacking every single time. This past audit not only cost the county $50,000
but it was found that a very large sum of county money is missing and the Auditor has not been filing reports, has no idea what her
duties are and obviously is not remoresful over her lack of fulfilling what she is getting paid for.

Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett on the other hand, is a successful business person with good credentials and a good education
who is willing (and clearly able) to take on the auditor position and get things straightened out. She is the one who is
dependable and trustworthy to be handling our tax dollars, not someone who "misplaces money" or fails to file timely reports.

This blog endorses Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett for Roberts County Auditor.

County Commission #1:

Floyd DeCoteau (R)
John Tchida (R)

Both of these are unknowns and even though their positions have been published in the Courier, they are so vague that
one cannot be chosen over the other. It seems to be DeCoteau in the lead slightly.

This blog endorses Floyd DeCoteau for Commissioner #1

County Commission #3:

William Utne (R)
James Crawford (D)
Don Carlson (I)

Mr. Utne didn't fill out a questionnaire. Don Carlson has been interested enough to attend most of the CC meetings since filing for office,
which says a lot. Both Carlson and Crawford gave some good answers in their questionnaires, but were vague on the issues so this one is
a toss-up.

This blog does not endorse any of the 3 candidates for Commissioner #3

County Commission #5:

Eugene Paulson (I)
Chad Ward (D)
Roger Navratil (I) (incumbent)

Mr. Paulson has some very good points in his questionnaire and from flyers found around the county he addresses most of the major issues
thoroughly and has well-laid plans to solve them. He utilizes common sense and everyone knows the current CC does not.

Mr. Ward seems to have dropped off the public route here. No questionnaire filled out so cannot make an assessment on him at this time.

Mr. Navratil is an incumbent and he has shown everyone that he is an extremely poor choice for any elected position. He has no common sense,
no problem-solving skills, little intelligence...but lots of arrogance and mouth. He is a follower and he has proved that to us already.
We need someone who will stand up and take action when needed and know when to be quiet and listen when needed. Mr. Navratil is not that person.

This blog endorses Eugene Paulson for Commissioner #5

Hopefully this will be enough for a dialog to get started here. Any pro's or con's on a candidate? Please enlighten us.
The most important thing is that you get out and VOTE on November 2nd. Of course absentee voting is going on right now.

Isn't it ironic that Katie Heinecke feels that she and her children are better than the rest of the kids/parents in our school system? While the majority of the kids in the school system are held accountable, Kati feels she and her children don't need to be. And while the rules are enforced on everyone, she feels her children are being singled out. Katie has always thought she was a little better than the rest of us. But to go as far as to single out school officials and hold open meetings is typical Katie behavior. Katie has always felt like she's been the victim. It's always been the poor me excuse. Katie always has to be the center of attention. Katie, why don't you lead by example? I think this situation is more about embarrassment as a failed parent in the public eye rather than something detrimental to your children. I know how she thinks, it's more like I'm Katie H and how dare you treat my child equal to the other children. Grow up Katie! You are your own biggest fan. Your child is NO different than any other child in our school system. Kudos’s to the staff at our school for not falling for the same old trick that many before you have had success at doing. Finally we have some staff with courage that doesn’t care who some out of line kids parents are. It's about time! Keep up the good work!

Oh Kati, enough already. Stop acting like your so important. The whole community knows why your so bitter. Channel your anger where it should be.

I was at that meeting, and it wasn't all Katie. She spoke at the beginning and then several other parents spoke on behalf of their children.

Sorry I missed what this is all about. Would someone please inform me. Thank you

I was at both meetings. The first one where Sarah Gerhold stood outside and wrote down license plates and the second one where April Moen and Kerri Peters sent their husbands as moles to write down all the parents names.
Yes - Katy did speak at the meeting. It was because her child had been arrested for 'disruption of school and sexual harassment' for calling a girl a 'perv'.
Between the two meetings approximately 80 parents, community members, education staff, and taxpayers showed up and voiced their concerns. There were people from all walks of life at the meetings and more than 30 parents voiced their concerns and frustrations about what is going on at the middle school.
The biggest concern was that the school allowed Mormons into the school, dressed in their suits, with their name badges and their religious necklaces on to 'mentor' some children. The children that were singled out were all Native American. I have no problem with mentors coming into our school, but advertising their religious affiliation and having the principal call them 'missionaries' on several occasions disturbs me. There is a very strict law regarding the Separation of Church and State. Our school district violated this law and can be held accountable for it's illegal actions.
After the initial meeting, it was ironic that the children whose parents were at that meeting were suddenly getting into trouble at school. It was said by one teacher that Mrs. Whitney was 'targeting' those students and making their lives miserable.

I had actually had a face to face meeting with Mrs. Liar wait I mean Whitney where I caught her in several lies which included holding the girls' hands while she made them walk laps during their lunch period. She hung her head and said nothing. This was witnessed by many children and several adult staff members.
My son received ISS that week because he asked for a pencil 'loud and obnoxiously'. My son had no behavior problem prior to these meetings with Mrs. Whitney or the parent meetings.
After a long meeting with Dr. Schulte and whitney yesterday - my husband (who works for the school) and I have decided to pull our kids out of the middle school. It is not worth the risk of causing emotion scarring to give Dr. Schulte the chance to monitor Mrs. Whitney. We received a phone call this weekend from a concerned teacher who told us that Mrs. Whitney was out to arrest our son for uncooperative behavior. My son was scared to go to school because the teachers had been instructed that any disturbance he was to be arrested.

My husband asked Whitney to print off a copy of my children's behavior and discipline reports from the middle school. My son had 1 behavior report from last school year and my daughter had 0. I don't think my children are the behavior problems that Whitney is trying to portray.

And to April Moen - your comments about how the parents in this town need parenting class because we're so poor parents - you can shove it up your nose. You are not a model parent - never have been, never will be.

I am more than willing to visit with anyone regarding this issue.

For Collette Weatherstone - we know you got on the school board to get rid of Jessica Leverson because you felt she was targeting your daughter and harassing her. Maybe you should start believing what is going on at that middle school. Or is it OK for school administration and staff to harass other people's children but not yours??

Dr. Schulte told me yesterday that he welcomes anyone and everyone to call him or stop up to visit him with any concerns. He likes it when he has open communication with the parents and taxpayers. He said he's had several parents already stop up voicing their concerns and he'd like to visit with more parents.

Unfortunately not all the staff at the middle school will speak up because they're afraid of being 'reassigned' like Mrs. Kriz, or forced to resign or retire like Gordy and Pam Robertson.

Here are some possible solutions.

1. Get Linda Kriz back in that school! Along with the Robertson’s.

2. Have the school board do what they were elected to do, which is make the tough and sometimes unpopular decisions.

3. Dr Schulte is the proper chain of command. If he feels a need for a change, than the he needs to take it to the board and shouldn’t renew her contract.

4. Consult with Jim Fredrick. He does a hell of a job with the high school. Maybe having Jim control both high school and Middle school is an option with an asst Principle.

5. Get rid of all these dumb committees. They serve no purpose but to challenge the school boards authority.

6. Listen to the teachers. They are our best line of communication between students, parents, and staff. They are with the kids 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

7. This is a must. We have to get more people involved in school boards and their kid’s education.

8. Our resource officer shouldn't be dragged through the mud for doing his job. He has a job to do. Anyone remember what it was like when the school didn't have a resource officer?

I've great respect for teachers and staff. In Sisseton they put up with more than most schools have too. Linda Kriz is an icon! She knows more about what’s happening in our school and with are kids than lots of parents do. Moving her to another position is a slap in the face not only to her but to our kids and parents as well. Get the good people back where they belong. No religion in school. If our kids can’t say a prayer before lunch, then we shouldn’t have Mormons in our school doing mentoring with kids. Let’s leave that to the professional teachers we already have.

Just some thoughts:

BIG daddy

There are 4 school board positions open. I think 'BIG daddy' should start a petition.
100% correct on every point.
Well done. Well done.

Sounds like someone is jealous of Katy H. I haven't had kids in school for over 15 years but I say "Good for you" to Katy and the other parents trying to do what is best for their kids. It is hard enough for kids at that middle school age and when you feel you have a teacher, let alone the principal out to get you, it has to feel like the end of the world. Parents you all need to step up and find out what is all going on at Sisseton Middle School for the sake of your kids. Attend the school board meetings (2nd Monday of each month). Talk to the administration and board members about your concerns. If they don't listen get out and vote. We have 4 school board seats up for re-election.
Oh, and last time I checked we still lived in the good old U.S.A and have free speech and right to assembly so I don't think the parents, school staff and concerned community members violated any laws by holding or attending their meetings. If noone speaks up nothing will change.

I have no children or grandchildren in the Sisseton school district so I have no axe to grind but do find it very interesting to see that a district which receives Impact aid of $1,824,151.32 and 98,600.00 for disabled in from the Lake Traverse Reservation in 2009 could pick on NA children.I have a copy of the report so know my figures are correct. Forced them out of the high school and now the middle school? And anything connected to the Moens' has a distinct smell. Is the school board connected the the RC CC'S???

Pick on NA kids? Any examples? My children are part NA and I've NEVER had any issue in regards too them being NA. If fact; I'd say my kids have been treated very well.

Katy H & Tiffany H? It's no wonder many aren't taking this too seriously. These two are trouble makers! Katy! Get off your high horse. Why do you think you are so important? Here’s a news flash for ya, YOUR NOT! People have figured you out, took awhile but they finally did! Tiffany; You cause trouble EVERYWHERE you go! You’re NOT well liked and EVERY friend you have is sick of you and the drama cloud that surrounds you. Take your kids out to TZ, take Scott with you. See how long TZ eats your crap? This constant back stabbing that you’re so good at is going to catch up to you. How can the kids be faulted for the actions they see from you both? Kids follow the actions of the parents, and when you have parents like this, it’s no wonder kids think they can do as they please.

And jelious of Katy? you can't be serious??

Wow - and I thought there was no bashing allowed. But maybe it doesn't count when the spelling and grammar is incorrect in half of the sentences. LOL!! Sounds like someone has a jealousy issue of their own.
I'm pretty sure TZ would be more than happy to have Mr. Hagen as one of their teachers and coaches.
He's a great teacher and a great coach. I enjoyed being in his class and having him as my coach.

What is REALLY going on with the old Middle School? It seems pretty obvious that somebody wants rid of it at all costs.
Not even discussing saving it when there are lots of folks ready, willing and able to help do this.
What is the school district and city hiding from us?

The old Middle School building should be torn down, it's a wreak.
