County Elections Soon

Upcoming County Elections!!

It seems there is no posting or discussion lately. Nothing to talk about or is it that nobody has anything to say?
With county elections looming in a few weeks it might be good to get some dialog started on the candidates,
who they are, what they are promising and if they are worthy of our votes. At least those where there is a choice.

County Auditor:

Dawn Sattler (D) (incumbent)
Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett (I)

What choice is there here? Dawn has been in office for awhile, long enough to screw things up majorly. Roberts county
was audited several times and the Auditor's office was found lacking every single time. This past audit not only cost the county $50,000
but it was found that a very large sum of county money is missing and the Auditor has not been filing reports, has no idea what her
duties are and obviously is not remoresful over her lack of fulfilling what she is getting paid for.

Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett on the other hand, is a successful business person with good credentials and a good education
who is willing (and clearly able) to take on the auditor position and get things straightened out. She is the one who is
dependable and trustworthy to be handling our tax dollars, not someone who "misplaces money" or fails to file timely reports.

This blog endorses Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett for Roberts County Auditor.

County Commission #1:

Floyd DeCoteau (R)
John Tchida (R)

Both of these are unknowns and even though their positions have been published in the Courier, they are so vague that
one cannot be chosen over the other. It seems to be DeCoteau in the lead slightly.

This blog endorses Floyd DeCoteau for Commissioner #1

County Commission #3:

William Utne (R)
James Crawford (D)
Don Carlson (I)

Mr. Utne didn't fill out a questionnaire. Don Carlson has been interested enough to attend most of the CC meetings since filing for office,
which says a lot. Both Carlson and Crawford gave some good answers in their questionnaires, but were vague on the issues so this one is
a toss-up.

This blog does not endorse any of the 3 candidates for Commissioner #3

County Commission #5:

Eugene Paulson (I)
Chad Ward (D)
Roger Navratil (I) (incumbent)

Mr. Paulson has some very good points in his questionnaire and from flyers found around the county he addresses most of the major issues
thoroughly and has well-laid plans to solve them. He utilizes common sense and everyone knows the current CC does not.

Mr. Ward seems to have dropped off the public route here. No questionnaire filled out so cannot make an assessment on him at this time.

Mr. Navratil is an incumbent and he has shown everyone that he is an extremely poor choice for any elected position. He has no common sense,
no problem-solving skills, little intelligence...but lots of arrogance and mouth. He is a follower and he has proved that to us already.
We need someone who will stand up and take action when needed and know when to be quiet and listen when needed. Mr. Navratil is not that person.

This blog endorses Eugene Paulson for Commissioner #5

Hopefully this will be enough for a dialog to get started here. Any pro's or con's on a candidate? Please enlighten us.
The most important thing is that you get out and VOTE on November 2nd. Of course absentee voting is going on right now.

Why are there so many business's leaving town or just closing up? Are the Economic Develment people just no doing their job? No new business's since Pamida. Sad!!!!

Think you would need to visit with the city officials for the answer to that question. From what I hear they aren't very welcoming to new business ventures.
Sort of a "this is my town" attitude.

Look who you have on your city council. Frank Karst, he wouldn't be in business if his wife wasn’t'/had been double dipping with the schools. Mike Brooks, Car salesman at a declining and soon to close GM dealership. Herman Wegligtner(SP) Janitor & another double dipper at the school. Paul Stapleton? Plumber/Electrician, full time? Part time? Hard to tell. There’s only one person on the board with any legitimate business experience. These guys don't care about tomorrow; they won't be alive in another 20 years. We'll be the people left trying to pick up the pieces asking ourselves why we didn’t do something sooner. It's going to take some young people to run for these positions and win if we plan on having any kind of future for our kids. Sadly, it's very possible it might be too late.

Let it not be to late. We need to vote some people in who really care. Sisseton does not need to remain the armpit of SD as it is now.

The City & County residents need to take a chance on voting in people with fresh, younger and new ideas, And there's plenty of these type of people out there. This isn't rocket science guy's n gal's. Has anyone been to a meeting in Sisseton or Roberts Co where you've seen a laptop used? I'd be willing to bet that at the very least 75% of all public meetings being held are on some type of video feed, via TV or Internet for people to see how their local Gov is working for them. Why is it that our local Govs. are afraid to do this? We HAVE to stop electing people based on this idea that.. oh he's a good guy, I'm going to vote for him. We need to start voting for people who really have the long term desire to see our community through! not the usual " what can you do for me" If people are really serious about getting change, this is one way to do it. Every person goes out and get's 3 people they know and take them to the voting booths. Have those 3 people go out and get 2 or 3 people themselves to bring in and vote. Go with them and challenge them to get their 2 or 3. If 50 people did this in Sisseton alone, You'd could easily generate the 300 to 350 votes you'd need to have to win the Mayoral position, and the 200 for a City Council seat. This is basically the same thing these guys in office have been doing so for years. Now, if everyone who reads these blogs took voting as serious as these guys in office and their buddy's do, The people could hand pick any person they'd like. It's basically a pyramid. But it's very simple if done weeks in advance.
1. Get organized
2. Every person would have to make sure the 2 or 3 they choose is registered to vote (Important)
3. Enlist multiple candidates. Get 5 people to run for one seat. If your pushing for one person, use the other 4 as take away votes for the incumbent. Those other 4 will get votes, and if done right those votes wouldn't come from the "main" person, they'll likely come from the incumbent! Remember, NOT getting a vote is as good as voting for the other guy!
4. Attend meetings! Ask questions! Be a good neighbor. These are all things we should be doing anyway.

I though this site was no bashing no false hoods etc. This is the same type of blog that was shut down. You are allowing the same people to come here and smear anothers name for all the read with no identity. This and all other blogs are for Cowards. You people that sit here and bash one another and give your opinions that hurt other jobs, family lives, reputation should be ashamed. Thanks for trying to make our county even worse to live in than it already is.

Who is being bashed? Truths are not bashing, people have the right to know what is going on so things can change for the better, Alot of us work and can't take the time off to go to commissioners, school board or counsel meetings so I for one appreciate the info rather than what gets thrown around the coffee tables now thats bashing!!!!! I'm sure the Administrator is no dummy and can tell the difference.

For those who didn't check their tax bill you will notice a tax increase. Yes, the opt out didn't pass, yet. What the county has decided to do for additional revenue appears to be to they have increased the taxable value to the same amount your previous assessed value making assessed value and taxable the same.Really getting desperate aren't they!

Our taxes have doubled in the last 10 years and still they want more money! Maybe they need to start learning how to wisely use the money we give them in the first place. Is it that hard to understand that the residents of this county are also having to endure rising costs of living ?Many of us are still earning the same wages as we were 10 years ago.

Why does the Grocery store Teals not sell the courier and why is it that the local grocery store has no adds in the local paper?

Anonymous said...

How about a school comment section. It appears Ms. Kati Heinikke has a bunch of gossip to spread.

Can Cluadi really figure who is posting what and if now could you explain to us people why?

Anonymous said...

Let me explain it: The simple answer is NO! I'm not the admin but I can assure you that it's next to impossible for anyone to see the ID of anyone. Even the admn is limited as to what can be seen. When someone says they are gong to post names, thats an act of desperation. We all know that if Claudia really had names, she'd of posted them as soon as she had them. I can't help but get a chuckle out of her claims. She has never had a problem slandering folks, but when the shoe is on the other foot, it's illegal. So don't worry at all about posting.
