It seems there is no posting or discussion lately. Nothing to talk about or is it that nobody has anything to say?
With county elections looming in a few weeks it might be good to get some dialog started on the candidates,
who they are, what they are promising and if they are worthy of our votes. At least those where there is a choice.
County Auditor:
Dawn Sattler (D) (incumbent)
Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett (I)
What choice is there here? Dawn has been in office for awhile, long enough to screw things up majorly. Roberts county
was audited several times and the Auditor's office was found lacking every single time. This past audit not only cost the county $50,000
but it was found that a very large sum of county money is missing and the Auditor has not been filing reports, has no idea what her
duties are and obviously is not remoresful over her lack of fulfilling what she is getting paid for.
Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett on the other hand, is a successful business person with good credentials and a good education
who is willing (and clearly able) to take on the auditor position and get things straightened out. She is the one who is
dependable and trustworthy to be handling our tax dollars, not someone who "misplaces money" or fails to file timely reports.

County Commission #1:
Floyd DeCoteau (R)
John Tchida (R)
Both of these are unknowns and even though their positions have been published in the Courier, they are so vague that
one cannot be chosen over the other. It seems to be DeCoteau in the lead slightly.

County Commission #3:
William Utne (R)
James Crawford (D)
Don Carlson (I)
Mr. Utne didn't fill out a questionnaire. Don Carlson has been interested enough to attend most of the CC meetings since filing for office,
which says a lot. Both Carlson and Crawford gave some good answers in their questionnaires, but were vague on the issues so this one is
a toss-up.

Eugene Paulson (I)
Chad Ward (D)
Roger Navratil (I) (incumbent)
Mr. Paulson has some very good points in his questionnaire and from flyers found around the county he addresses most of the major issues
thoroughly and has well-laid plans to solve them. He utilizes common sense and everyone knows the current CC does not.
Mr. Ward seems to have dropped off the public route here. No questionnaire filled out so cannot make an assessment on him at this time.
Mr. Navratil is an incumbent and he has shown everyone that he is an extremely poor choice for any elected position. He has no common sense,
no problem-solving skills, little intelligence...but lots of arrogance and mouth. He is a follower and he has proved that to us already.
We need someone who will stand up and take action when needed and know when to be quiet and listen when needed. Mr. Navratil is not that person.

The most important thing is that you get out and VOTE on November 2nd. Of course absentee voting is going on right now.

There is also a very informative letter to the editor in this week's SOTA concerning some of the mis-deeds our CCs have been involved with.
This week's edition is certainly an "eye opener"!

Yes, Gene Paulson's letter is full of facts that many have forgotten or chosen to ignore. I should have mentioned it also. Yet, we the voters let the "mess" continue. So many changes could/should be made but it just may be too late for anyone to straighten out.
You are so right Dartman, Mr Hayes poem was superb. So true so true. Also letter from Mr Paulson was well written. Lets hope its never to late to make something better. We just have to stand up for what is right and elect people who will do the same.
Wow!!! Hope those commissioners that shunned the tribe on a duel jail both past and present that were part of it read Mr Hayes's poem and feel real proud that they ruined it for the residents that see the Natives as equals in all respects. As do our 2 new commissioners. Please Mr Hayes don't judge us all by an ignorant few.Please Please will one or more of our Native friends run for commissioner this year. There are 3 openings.
We must elect at least two new CC. We elected two NA friends and they literally ran them out of town. I know both and worked hard to get them elected. They would have done and did an excellent job but without support they can do nothing. Now is the time but without candidates who are willing to try to straighten out this mess we will have nothing. A rumor awhile back was just to let the county and Sisseton go down and then the SWO could step in and just take over.Just maybe not a bad idea. Your thoughts???
Did you notice the good articules were in the Sota??? Wonder why nothing in Sisseton paper??? It doesn't even give us town news about crime arrests(so we can feel safe)cause we are not dumb crime is every where. Only news about who had coffee where and with whom, how all the Editors family is doing nothing negitive!! Why?? All you have to do is look at main street(nothing hardly left of it) and you know theres something negitive going on in this town. Why isnt the paper filled with what is going on ie gangs,home robberies, what cops are doing about keeping us safe. There is so much crime in Roberts Co and a big percentage in town, we rank up there with Minnehaha and Pennington counties for crime so publisize it and give us residents a chance to help. One positive tho is the town papers coverage of the Schools.

Well I see by front pape of Sisseton paper they found another reporter to do Dawns and commiss bidding!!! It said AA suspended at jail. No why, said there was a disscussion, Wrong!!! Talked to 3 officals that were there they confirmed no discussion was had and it was only 2 of the commissioners that don't want our inmates to have help. AA is free!!! A savings to the co. and some that dont return to jail, I read on this blog and another one where inmates from past say their lives have changed, what more do we want, dont pay for services and if they dont recomit crimes we dont have to pay for them being in there!!!!! WIn,win as I see it. Any one know what this was all about?? I dont want you biased peoples BS I want fact. Dartman you are a good one on facts, what goes here???
I think it is their way to getting Claudia out of there since she was doing it.

who is this david meeks? all i heard was he used to work at the RC jail at one time... the old site said he was the owner of the blog?
I do not know him, I to heard he had the one blog and that he got sick. If thats the case I hope he is ok. Anyone out there know him?
The ripple is getting bigger and bigger, they dont know what they started trying to take free help away from our inmates to get help and better their lifes. I can't beleive what that chairman and Vice chairman try. They think they own not only the county but the taxpayers too. Its time we stand up and be counted!!!

Crying shame if they dont re-enstate her here a States Attorney said in paper. Its Roberts co inmates loss don't those dummys know that?????
Good article in the Sota this week about the AA mess at the jail. Said it was Hull and Navratril who wanted Claudia out.
Sounds like Cameron is for AA being kept.

You're right, very informitive now we know exactly who are being their usual dumd know it all selfs. That PO dont want his people to get help he wants them in prison. I know I was on at one time with him, power hungry fool. And we know how some of them up there (2 commissioners Mentioned and the PO) sure don't want Natives to get help and most of that ladies group in jail AA are Indians, sad how this county works. Dont help inmates so theyll recomite a crime so we can send them away and feel like BIG MEN!!!! Thats their mentality, and they want our(Natives)help with the jail???
To the March 4 question it is now back to SOTA for just some of the answers. I know AA does not help everyone, maybe just 10 or 20% but aren't those people worth all the help we can give them?Claudia has offered that help at no cost to the county for a number of years. But the CC got rid of Gary, Vince and now Claudia. Two NA and one lady WHO DOES attend CC meetings and tries to hold them accountable. I only hope that the voters of RC can wake up and make some changes. The old rule of "NO NA" in the courthouse or RC payroll is still in effect!! And that applies to their friends as well. What we all need is a joint effort aimed only at what is good for every RC citizen.
Great Editorial in Sota, Shows some more of the "clans"lack of intelligence and caring for the inmates. Is it because 99% of inmates are Native? we sure know those 2 commissioners are racict!!!! Inmates deserve a chance to leard a different way of life so they don't return to jail. Free it is and then less money to pay for keeping them in jail saves county all around. Thay say were broke in the county so this makes no sence at all. It looks like ending statement in paper is true, using their positions to carry out personal vendettas which is just plain wrong!!!!
You say that 99% of the inmates are NA?? I always read in the Sota that that would change if we had a different State's Attorney?? What happened? The truth is that the county is broke because they had to build a jail. The tribe don't help pay a thing for it but it is mostly tribal memebers that are in there. Where does all the Casino $$$ go??? Funny how quick the tribe distances themselves from members when it come time to pay $$ for them. (I have friends who are tribal members but can't get any housing, yet there are others members who get to live at big farm places like Jay Adams across from the casino?) Is doesn't make sence!

If these 2 so-called jails want her? she should have NO problem being let go at RCJ. It's "all" about helping, right Claudia?
Also, why remove the comments on Claudia? Heck, I knew Claudia was involved in this blog before it even took off. This blog wreaks of Claudia! Claudia has chosen to attack our PO, now when people of this community "hit" back! their comments are removed? The facts are:
Claudia was behind former Sheriff Moan and his pit bull deputy in trying to get Gary G.removed. She personally attacked Gary & his family.
Claudia was behind "EVERY" Sheriff that allowed her a "KEY" to OUR jail. Gary wouldn't and Claudia turned on him with outrageous claims and RAN to the outside media and threatened impeachment.
Claudia ONLY does AA as a tool to keep HERSELF involved with LE and OUR jail.
Claudia has slandered EVERY person in ANY position of POWER that does NOT agree with her , her idea's nor anyone who doesn't GIVE her credibility.
WE did NOT have OUR dirty laundry aired in PUBLIC until the arrival of Claudia. Who in turn kept her "Dirty Laundry" secret until her cover was blown.
Claudia has SMEARED some very GOOD people in OUR community. Not to mention her caretakers and her family.
These are FACTS! Most of whom she's hurt are lifelong residents of Sisseton and Roberts county. Most have children. Most pay taxes. Most invest in our community. And most of all, the majority care about the people and this area. Claudia doesn't meet any of the above mentioned criteria . Come on people! are some of you really that pathetic? If you have a grip, go to the city & county meetings yourself. You will never get anywhere having this media hound do your footwork. They are not going to listen to her. You and I have a much better chance of being heard if we step up ourselves and do the questioning. You might be surprised that most if not all would be thrilled to hear from us.

Why do Kati Heinike and Tiffany Hagen have this idea that somehow they matter? Kati, get off your high horse! You’re not as popular as you think! In fact, most people don't care that much for you period. Tiffany, I think you have lots of other personal problems you need to be dealing with instead of sticking your nose in something that doesn't pertain to you. You both should consider bringing your noses back down to eye level. You two have more dirt in your closets than the average person. I can think of two words when it comes to the two of you, DRAMA & TWO-FACED. Leave the people who do their jobs alone, discipline your kids! If you wouldn't come running cause you think you and your offspring are so special maybe your kids wouldn't think they’re so special either. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Well I waited untill I found who wrote above post and I am surprised as I gave him far more credit than that. I am President of the Civil Rights of the Dakotas and we have a very savy computer member in Oklahoma that can do anything with them. So we now have have 2 names and will have more. I have not done what above poster says, We in AA dont get involed in conterversy over it. Thats why to all papers and other phone caklls I have had no commett. Except Harley and I told him I wouldnt stoop to othyers levels,also said I did not me any PO's as they are just doing their jobs as they see fit. I never said anything about a PO and his family in the paper or any one else. I have never attacked anyones family. I've been a watchdog for years for various meetings, if it was news i made it available to the papers across the stae and many picked up some of the commissioners antics. When one was repremended by the States Attorney for violating open meeting law local paper didnt print it but it was in other papers across the state. Now there are even more openess past this year.Maybe I should post the reach me and others have done on the past of some of the commissioners, the above poster and others that like to slam people but Again I'm not stooping to there level. I have not ran down good lon time residents in fact some of them are my friends. Are you discriminating against me because I'm a women.an alcolohic,senior citizen,felon or a parolee or all of the above???? Want your dirty laudry aired? If you're talking about county commissioners meetings it the publics right to know. You cant do it behind closed doors and not tell the taxpayers. If its your own dirty laudry I'll do that. I remember you Harley back when, Hull also and afew others shall I lay it out there? Ive lived here 62 yrs. much longer than Claudia I don't know her well but i'm sure I can tell more stories(true ones)than she can. So just let me know. First off why do we dwell on the fact that Claudia has so much Clout. If you dont care for her then dont read her stuff and Claudia rather then defend the same stuff over and over just let it go. Im not a fan but it is sad that everyblog pretty much is you and bob. If everybody could look away from you two and give the commissioners a break whe could get out of the bad habits of running people down. Look people everybody has a flaw and mistakes have been made but if we truley want to get along we need to stop the bashing. Face it we will never be able to work together tribe vs white this will never change. They want to keep their money we want them to help chip in. Not going to happen, SO what we have to make due. Let me add this to the above comment. Even the FBI has a difficult time getting Google to release IP address. The laws on blogging are very different from that of owning a website. Anyone who has Internet through Venture or RC will have an IP show up as Highmore SD or New Effington SD, not Sisseton, Peever. In order to track IP's you'll need a court order and have to prove a law was broken. I've read every post; no laws pertaining to blogging have been broke. Also, LE is not going to waste valuable resources to try to catch someone who is questioning a felon on parole. It's just not going to happen. President Obama has blogs about him with some outrageous comments, nobody has-been arrested, do you honestly think that any LE agency is going to come and check IP's for Claudia?
I agree with poster march 30th 11:10, lets just let our differences go and work together to save our county. I disagree with next one tho as private people have gotten ip address and names, its not only done by Law enforcement.

Yes, private persons have gotten Ip's. But NOT from CO-OP telephone companys. It's to vast of area. Do a Google search on your IP address, see what you come up with.

They had a rally today and Enemy Swim District voted to suspend Chairman Selvege and Red Owl and it carried with out pay!!!!! All other Districts abatained or voted against it. Great for them. Members stood up and spoke out against their corrupt goverment. Maybe Roberts Co. can take heed of that and do the same in the county??? What you think???
You say Chuck don't put Tribal stuff in paper. How about Harley never putting anything about the money problem the commissioners have our county in? The state Audit has'nt even been publishied. Never any thing negitive about them and we all know by now we are in serious money problems, could it be because Hull spends time over there? Ever see a negitive letter printed? You can evenj read about Roberts Co problems in West River papers but not here!!! WHY???? I wrote a letter 12 yrs ago stating something wrong in Co. that wasnt printed as none since then have been.
Well Harley did put Audit on front page, good for him altho he did'nt go in depth and explain it like Watertown and the Sota. Sad the state the county is in money wise. The employees are stepping up to the plate? Get real!!! No one pays all the insurance, employees pay up to half. $50.00 Big Deal !!!! Hire enough coverage for the jail staff and you wouldnt have overtime, they sure didnt have enough in 2008 so even that goes back to the commissioners not giving the OK to hire!!!!! So don't blame jail staff.
Nice bunch of dismissal's in this weeks paper. Glad Cameron is working so hard for his $60,000 a year.
